The Uniform Patrol Division is the most visible unit within the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies assigned to Uniform Patrol are responsible for answering calls for service, including traffic accidents, enforcing the traffic laws throughout the county, serving civil papers and warrants, and working inside the schools of Barrow County. The Division is commanded by Major Tim Hines and Captain Vince Henderson and incorporates four different units, each with its own supervisors and staff.

The patrol unit handles the bulk of the calls received for law enforcement service. This unit is comprised of four separate patrol shifts, each commanded by a lieutenant, and provide around the clock coverage throughout Barrow County.

The traffic unit is primarily responsible for responding to traffic accidents, investigation and recontruction of serious accidents, and enforcement of all traffic laws within the county. The traffic unit is supervised by a sergeant.

The civil/code/transport unit, under the supervision of a sergeant is responsible for the service of all civil papers, writs, warrants, and subpoenas throughout the county. These deputies are also responsible for the enforcement of county ordinances and transportation of inmates to and from the Barrow County Detention Center.

The crime prevention unit is primarily responsible for law enforcement functions within Barrow County schools and all deputies assigned to the crime prevention unit are trained School Resource Officers. The crime prevention function also expands their duties to include management of neighborhood watch programs, the Sheriff’s Office Explorer program, and the Reserve Deputy unit.

All together, the Uniform Patrol Division employs 58 deputies and supervisors and 1 civilian employee.
